11 month old drinks whole milk is this ok?

My 11 month old has drank whole milk since he was a little over 9 months. I stopped nursing then and we tried to switch him over to formula. It was a disaster. He threw up every time he drank it and couldn't keep anything down. We switched him to whole milk and since then he has done fine. He loves it and has had no problem this far. Is it ok to continue to just give him whole milk or do we need to add something else to his diet. I know he is close to his year birthday which is what they recommend but I want to make sure he is getting all the nutriention he needs. He is also on table food only. My husband keeps talking about the DHA he is not getting.
